Lewisham Wildlife
Coming back from the bank in town today, I noticed a Heron stood on the banks of the River Ravensbourne, (really Deptford Creek), just before it disappears under the bus station. I deduced that there must be some fish in that stretch from time to time, so I stopped to look. There appeared to be some small trout (odd for this time of year?) and at that point the Heron lurched head first into the water and came out with one in it's beak. Never seen that before, even in the rural idyll of Tring canal and reservoirs where I've seen loads of Herons.
