ROME SPQR

Blog 11
On our way to Rome we stopped at Monte Silvano, turns out to be a massive resort, one long beach, with rock barriers just off shore to protect the sand from being washed away.  Not very attractive but in stark contrast to most other places we’ve been it was very modern.
We travelled across country to Rome, through the national park (massive snow covered peaks, and passed L’Acquila, where they had the earthquake and Berlusconi visited to cheer them up and said “you’ll be OK; Camping’s fun isn’t it”.  He went down a storm.
Thence to Rome, absolutely amazing, spent 2 days with a slack gob.  We’re definitely going back.  I could’ve taken 1,000 photo’s and not captured all we saw.  Sadly unlike our winter months over here, we didn’t have the place to ourselves, jostling for position for a photo at the Trevi Fountain was a mass brawl.  Bunty had to give one or two people a slap in order to restore some order.

Trevi Fountain

Thence back to the Gargano, for a couple of days dossing on some beaches.

On the Beach
On the way back to the car we were walking through a fantastic woodland, wild Dill, Rosemary, Thyme, sage, Hyacinths etc, etc.  Bunty thought she saw some small deer and told me to be quiet.  Turns out it was a family of wild boar, and Dad Boar wasn’t too keen on us showing an interest in the rest of the family (he probably assumed our interest was culinary).  I tried to keep cool, which was fairly easy, Bunty was between me and the boar.  Bunty tried to rectify that situation by climbing a tree.  I think the boar quickly realised it wasn’t faced with hard faced ruthless Italian hunters, he grunted (possibly with some disdain) and waddled off to tell his misses how pathetic we were.
