Had a good night in Nice, no dining at the roulette wheel for us, we found a Lybian restaurant, very nice vegie mezze and cheap wine. We had been down to the Promenade Anglais to see the sea, but the gravel beach didn’t impress. It was good to be in amongst noise and crowds a chaos for a change.
Talking of chaos .. we set of for Lucca earlier today. As soon as you cross the border, discipline vanishes. There were plenty of road works, with speed restrictions, usually set at 60 km/hr. If I slowed to 100 the traffic in front was pulling away and I ended with a queue behind me.
Got to Bagni di Lucca and found the hotel. We were looking for this ..
Which is as it was in 1890, but instead found this ..
It was OK inside with lots of original features, exposed soldier courses that our Lithuanian mates would’ve sorted out, and amazing tiled marble everywhere, from the local quarries.
It’s very spectacular around here, as we found when we walked up to the Term.
The treatments are available on the Italian Health Service, and it looks it (more Manchester Northern General than The Harley Street Clinic).
This is the associated Church (St Martins). Looks like the beam at the top right is going to come away anytime soon.
