We left Sicily on a cold and damp day, 8 deg C max after a bracing trip on the Ferry.
The next morning was sunny and quite warm, and this turned out to be our view.
We went to Briatico, which was a nothing town, but had a nice beach and I had a swim, then on to Tropea, which was spectacular. I took this as a comparison with my scaffolding at Lewisham, imagine quoting for this job?
The beaches here looked great but it appears that they’re all private in the season (May to October).
Today is (March 1st) and it’s been raining on and off all day, with rolling thunder and lightning again. There’s not much provision for rainwater, either ‘cos they don’t get a lot, or because they can’t be bothered. Judging from some of the half arsed road works that have been started and never finished, I suspect the latter. Today we passed a fantastic 4 lane flyover that wasn’t connected to the road system at either end and didn’t fly over anything. I know I shouldn’t stereotype Italians, but you wonder who got paid to build it and what the purchasing process was.
Anyway the conclusion is as below, it rains - and consequently the water is guided by gravity with very little control imposed by man-made objects.
